WOTC has cancelled their support for VML

I’m writing this as I’m learning of the news in realtime. I know not my entire Patreon audience is as tuned into this part of the community as I am, but that’s why I feel like it’s important to share my thoughts.

VML (https://vmlmtg.com/)) is a deep source of talent development and community-building for a competitive scene that’s long been inaccessible to far too many people. It produces Pro players like Jason Ye (my Sanctum teammate, top player of the year finisher last year and the principle architect of the otters deck that so many of you fell in love with).

This decision is unacceptable and cowardly. Efforts to support players who are more socially marginalized are good for the game, period. If anyone disagrees, I don’t want their money or their readership. Please speak up about this to WOTC and Hasbro if you can. I direct everyone to the words I wrote all the way back when I created this Patreon after placing 2nd at Arena Champs:

Competitive means INCLUSIVE

True competition takes place in a community where everyone is welcome, regardless of identity or material resources. This means we want everyone to have a seat at the table and a sense of safety in the community. This allows us all to play against the best opponents possible and continue our growth as Magic players in an honest fashion

This includes proactive measures to help in terms of representation and visibility.
